Print WhatsApp messages from Android

WhatsApp can export a chat, but it has no print button, and most guides send the export to a computer. 2doc turns WhatsApp's own export into a dated PDF on the phone, with every speaker named, and prints it through Android's print dialog. Nothing is uploaded.

What the printout shows

The chat, laid out as a conversation on paper:

The chat under its name, with the number of participants for a group.
A date line for every day, and the time on every message.
Every speaker's name on their messages, and yours on your own side.
Photos in place, when you export with media. Without media, each attachment is marked as not included, so a gap is never silent.
Page numbers on every page. The free version adds a "Created with 2doc" line in the page footer.

Print a WhatsApp chat, step by step

In WhatsApp, open the chat and tap the menu (⋮) in the top right, then More, then Export chat.
Choose With media to print the photos, or Without media for the text alone.
Select 2doc in the share sheet.
Choose the import options and tap Import transcript.
Tell 2doc which name is yours, so your messages sit on your side.
Pick the period and tap Generate Document.
Open the document and tap Print.

2doc only reads the file WhatsApp gives you. It has no access to your WhatsApp account and no connection to WhatsApp's servers. Every screen of the import, and how to use an export file you already have, is in the WhatsApp chat to PDF guide.

With media or without

An export with media carries the photos, and they print in place in the conversation. Voice notes, videos and documents print as labeled attachments, since paper cannot play them.

An export without media prints the text, with a "not included in this export" line where each photo or file was. WhatsApp caps how many messages an export holds, and the cap is lower with media, so for a long chat try without media first. Then compare the first date on the printout with the chat.

In the print dialog

Print opens Android's print dialog. Pick a printer, or Save as PDF for a file instead of paper, and set the copies, the paper size and the pages. 2doc hands the file only to the print service you pick.

If your printer is not listed, your printer maker's print app adds it. If the phone cannot print at all, 2doc says "Printing is not available": share the PDF to your email and print it from a computer. The text messages printing guide has the other ways onto paper.

Print only some days

Pick the days you need before you generate. 2doc shows how many messages fall inside the period and warns when it has none, and the rest of the export is not used. Longer ranges are a Pro feature.

What is free

Everything on this page, printing included. Pro is a single one-time purchase, with no subscription and no ads in either version. It unlocks longer date ranges, several conversations in one document, extra image layouts, and removes the "Created with 2doc" page footer.

What can be missing

2doc needs the export WhatsApp itself produces. A screenshot or a copied text is not enough.
Messages deleted before the export are not in the file. Where WhatsApp left a "message was deleted" marker, the printout shows it.
WhatsApp's own export cap can cut off the oldest part of a very long chat.

Questions

Will the others in the chat know I printed it?

No. Exporting is a local action in WhatsApp, and the document is made and printed from your phone. Nobody is notified.

Can I print a group chat?

Yes. Every participant's messages carry their name, and you pick your own name so your messages sit on your side.

Does it look like the chat on my phone?

It is laid out as a conversation: names, a date line for every day, the time on every message, and your messages on your own side. It is a document made to be read on paper, not a screenshot of WhatsApp.

Can I print WhatsApp messages for court?

You can print a dated transcript of everything the export holds for the period you pick. Whether a court or official body accepts it, and how it must be presented, is for them and your adviser to decide. The guide to a complete record covers what a record should carry.
