Telegram chat to PDF on Android

Telegram's own export tool lives in its desktop app, and the guides for phones end in a bot or a browser extension. 2doc signs into your own Telegram account on the phone, reads the chat you pick for the period you pick, and writes a PDF there. Nothing goes to us.

What the PDF contains

Telegram group chat exported to PDF with 2doc: Weekend Hikers, every speaker named, a quoted reply, dated and timed messages
Page one of a Telegram group as a PDF, from a test chat with made-up messages: speakers named, a reply shown with the message it answers.

Export a Telegram chat to PDF

  1. Open 2doc, tap Create Document, then Telegram.
  2. Sign in: enter your phone number, then the verification code Telegram sends to your other Telegram apps or by SMS, then your two-step verification password if you use one. The sign-in talks to Telegram directly. Handrolled Apps never sees your code or your password.
  3. Search your chats. Results are split into Your chats and Public results, so a public channel you are not a member of can be imported too.
  4. Choose the import options: Media attachments, Link previews, Voice transcription. Tap Import chat.
  5. Pick the period. 2doc shows progress while it reads older messages, and says so if a period is too far back to reach in full.
  6. Tap Generate Document, then Share or Print.

The session stays on the phone until you end it: Settings → Log out of Telegram in 2doc, or Settings → Devices in Telegram itself, where it is listed like any other signed-in device.

2doc's Telegram sign-in on Android: enter your phone number with country code, then Send Code
Step 2: sign in with your own number. The code comes from Telegram, not from us.
2doc's Telegram chat picker: search chats, a private chat, a group, a channel and an archived chat, with Log out
Step 3: the chat picker, here on a test account with made-up chats. Private chats, groups, channels and archived chats all appear.
2doc import options for a Telegram chat: media attachments, voice transcription, link previews, tappable links
Step 4: the import options. Voice transcription is off until you turn it on.

Print a Telegram chat

Open the finished document and tap Print. Android's print dialog opens with your printer, or Save as PDF, as the target. 2doc hands the file only to the print service you pick there. If the phone answers "Printing is not available", it has no print service installed: share the PDF to your email or Google Drive and print from a computer.

What is free

Everything on this page, with a free Telegram account. Pro is a single one-time purchase, with no subscription and no ads in either version. It unlocks longer date ranges, several conversations in one document, extra image layouts, and removes the "Created with 2doc" page footer.

What can be missing

Questions

What does 2doc get when I sign in?

A normal Telegram session on your phone, the same kind a second phone would get. Telegram lists it under Settings → Devices, where you can end it at any time. 2doc reads the chat you pick, for the period you pick, and nothing else. The privacy policy has the details.

Can I export a channel or a group?

Yes. In groups every speaker is named. Public channels appear under Public results in the search, whether or not you follow them.

Do I need Telegram Premium?

Only for voice transcription, and only because Telegram does the transcribing. Everything else works with a free account.

Several chats in one document?

One chat per document is free. Several conversations in one document is a Pro feature.

Does it need a computer?

No. Sign-in, reading and the PDF all happen on the phone.
